In 2020, our parent company APRIL Group unveiled the APRIL2030 agenda, a set of ambitious targets aimed at making positive contributions to our environment and people. The targets were based on four commitments: to implement climate positive solutions, invest in forest conservation, champion inclusive progress and drive sustainable growth. Five years on, APRIL Group has made significant headway on its promises, proving that business growth can exist alongside sustainable transformation.

Using APRIL2030 as a roadmap for progress, PaperOne™ has adopted various initiatives to align our business operations with APRIL Group’s vision for a more sustainable future.

Working Towards a Circular Economy

Circularity plays a critical role in driving PaperOne’s sustainable business operations. The concept emphasises optimising the value of resources and minimising waste across a product’s entire lifecycle, therefore keeping its value in the economy for as long as possible.

Every PaperOne product is designed with circularity in mind. With our ProDigi HD Print Technology, you can reduce up to 18% of ink use during printing while its high opacity allows you to print confidently on both sides of the paper without the fear of show-through.

We have also made a commitment to collect and recycle waste paper equivalent to the amount of paper sold at PaperOne stores across the globe. In 2020, we kickstarted the PAPER ONCE MORE! Sustainability Campaign in Malaysia, partnering with a local recycling company and collecting over 2,000 metric tons of waste paper for recycling. Following its success, we launched the same project in Singapore with an aim to recycle more than 15k tons of waste paper in a year. To put things into perspective, that amounts to an estimated six million reams of A4 copy paper!

Becoming a Steward of Our Forests

On all PaperOne products, you will find a green and white PEFC label, indicating that our products are verified to be from legal, traceable, and environmentally sustainable sources by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, an international non-profit and non-governmental organisation.

The organisation ensures the sustainable use of forest resources through the Sustainable Forest Management certification, which ensures that our fibre plantations are sustainably managed according to strict environmental, social, and economic requirements, and the Chain of Custody certification, which tracks every step of the supply chain, from forest to customer.

The sustainable management of our forests helps to preserve their biodiversity, productivity, and regeneration capacities, ensuring that they will continue to be around for generations to come. This also means the forests are managed according to the social, health, and safety needs of local communities, providing livelihoods, and protecting workers’ rights through the compliance of International Labour Organisation conventions.

Minimising Our Carbon Footprint

To mitigate the impacts of climate change, the Paris Agreement of 2015 called for global temperatures to be kept below 1.5 degrees Celsius, reducing emissions by 45% by 2030 and reaching net zero by 2050.

In line with this global objective, we introduced the PaperOne 80gsm Digital Carbon Neutral, made from 100% renewable fibres sourced from sustainably managed forests. It is third-party certified as carbon neutral by SCS Global Services based on a cradle-to-grave methodology that assesses the carbon footprint of a product’s entire lifecycle from raw materials to disposal.
