Paper Hacks

3 REASONS WHY USING PAPER ISN’T AS BAD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AS YOU THINK

The first step is to know where your paper comes from! Sustainable forestry certification schemes such as the Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), ensure that the paper you use can be traced back to a sustainable forest source.

1. Trees are a natural, renewable resource

As long as responsibly-managed forests are used to make paper or wood-based products, it will stay a forest (and never a car park).

2. Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere

For every ton of wood a forest produces, it removes 1.47 tons of CO2 from the air and replaces it with 1.07 ton of oxygen.

3. Paper is produced using a high proportion renewable energy

Instead of burning fossil fuels (which is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions), the pulp and paper industry mostly uses renewable energy.
